The Lissa and Cy Wagner Student Services Center is located at the heart of the University of Oklahoma campus. ADG worked with administrators, faculty and students to design a new building that would bring together undergraduate student services in one central location. Wagner Hall is home to University College, Undergraduate Advising, the Writing Center, and other undergraduate programs and classrooms incorporating state-of-the-art classroom technology. Flexible spaces are employed for individual and group study, as well as large seminars, freshman orientation and small conferences.
Two primary entrances are connected by a two-story atrium lobby. Large windows at the west and south ends of the second floor flood the lobby with natural light. A monumental staircase is a focal point. The atrium makes orientation within the building very clear—from the center of the atrium one can view the entrance to nearly every department on both floors.
The two-story, 38,000-square-foot building repeats a traditional pattern set by Evans and Buchanan Halls, to the west. ADG focused on keeping within the university’s “Cherokee Gothic” design style. The new student center’s footprint completes a quadrangle, bounded on three sides by the Field House, Price College of Business, and Brooks Mall. The new building appears as if it has been on campus as long as its 100-year-old neighbors. Construction was completed in Fall 2008.
